Fed: New indigenous body outlined by Aboriginal leader

Aboriginal Social Justice Commissioner TOM CALMA has handed in his final report on
a replacement body for ATSIC.

Mr CALMA's report suggests the body should comprise an eight-member national executive
.. a 128 seat national congress and an ethics council to ensure its members are all fit
and proper persons.

The new body .. which hasn't been given a name yet .. will be independent of government
and operate as a registered company.

He's hoping the first congress will be convened by October next year.
