Fibre-optic temperature probe for microwave heating

A series of flexible, fibre-optic temperature probes for use in microwave heating applications has been released by Nortech Fibronic Inc of Richardson, Texas, USA.

The devices have 1, 2, 3, 4, 16 or 32 channels with probe lengths ranging from one to hundreds of metres, although 2, 5 or 10 m are the standard. They operate from -200oC to +300oC at a sample rate of 0.25 s/channel. Their accuracy is quoted as 1oC.

The series consists of six probes:

TP01 an ultra-fast miniprobe, 1.3 mm in diameter with a response time of about 0.25 s;

TPP-01 a Teflon-coated miniprobe, 2.7 mm in diameter;

TP-02 a utility handle probe, for general purpose applications, available in stainless steel or alumina;

TP-04 a penetration probe;

TP-05 a dual threaded probe, available in stainless steel or alumina; and

TP-06 a heavy duty cable probe for up to 150oC.
