ALBANY DPW WORKERS RESENT RELEGATION TO ROADKILL DETAIL.(CAPITAL REGION)

ALBANY Ever wonder who picks up those dead dogs and cats in the road?

If it's after 3 p.m., chances are it's a city Department of Public Works employee, and none too happy about it.

The city's blue-collar union showed just how unhappy workers are with the duty by filing a grievance Wednesday, contending that the task is neither part of anyone's job description nor safe for employees to do.

``We'll go down there now, get out, pick up a cat dripping blood and take it out to the shelter,'' said Steve Bogart, the union president. ``That's way out of our job description.''
