AMATEUR GAME HAS ANOTHER STRONG YEAR.(Sports)

A record 181 players received points this year in the seventh-year Capital Region amateur point standings, and that's with one tournament still on the schedule. Amateur golf still seems to have a strong foothold in the area.

It was a transitional year among the amateurs. The Northeastern New York PGA took over the administrative duties in several area events and created the Capital Region Amateur Golf Association. That led to the renewal of the Capital Stroke Play, which wasn't played in 2007, and the formation of a few new amateur events.
